Very well received on their last appearance at Heidi’s, this popular musical couple return again to present an evening of entertaining classic jazz with the Ron Teixeira Trio. Performing together since the 1997 Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland, award winning jazz artists Lisa Kelly & JB Scott have plated on numerous club and festival stages throughout the U.S, Europe, Canada, and the Orient, including the North Sea Jazz Festival, the Hague, the Monterey Jazz Festival, CA, the Blue Room, New Orleans, and the Jazz Corner, SC. Each are inductees in the regarded Jacksonville Jazz Festival “Hall of Fame” (Kelly 2013, Scott 2017), and profiled among 120 world-wide top jazz artist-mentors in the acclaimed book, “The New Face of Jazz.” A charming musical chemistry between them, Lisa Kelly’s vocal song styling and Scott’s trumpet flare offer a highly engaging mix of beloved jazz standards from the Great American Songbook to modern jazz, original compositions, and New Orleans traditional, in styles of swing, easy ballads, Bossa Nova, groove, St. Beat and more.
Lisa Kelly is the winner of 8 prestigious Downbeat Magazine Awards for voice, arranging, and original composition. Her smoothly phrased warm, swinging style is a blend of Rene Marie and Diana Krall, her “horn-like scat approach is that of Ella. She has been the featured vocalist with the legendary Larry Elgart Orchestra, the St. Johns River City Band, the University of North Florida JE 1 big band, and many others.
A former leader of the world-famous Dukes of Dixieland in New Orleans, JB Scott toured with the Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra, Al Hirt, and other jazz notables, and was featured on the PBS special, “A Salute to Jelly Roll Morton” with legendary Danny Barker in Mahogany Hall. He is the Director of Jazz Studies at UNF, Director of the Great American Jazz Concert Series, Director of the award winning UNF JE 1 big band, and jazz trumpet professor for over 24 years. A Warburton Signature Trumpet Artist, JB’s playing influences include Freddie Hubbard, Clark Terry, Louis Armstrong, to Doc Severinsen. Lisa and JB have released 6 acclaimed CD music projects, and have been featured on countless others, and on TV and radio. They co-lead small groups to big bands, comprised of regarded musicians, and teach at jazz camps.
